I like having Skype around on my N900 for skype<->skype calls but I don't use SkypeOut at all. Is there any way to hide the extra buttons that are shown in contact cards for every single phone number? It can be irritating at times having to wade through many contact details to find the right one, especially when SkypeOut buttons are above a normal skype contact detail!

Even a hackish solution would satisfy me, perhaps some obscure gconf switch?

Nope, although this is a variation on the related SMS issue (bug #6375). Would suggest opening a new bug requesting that the display of "Skype" numbers (that are actually landlines/cellular) be disabled when placing a call if SkypeOut is not active.

I dug rather deep into the phone while attempting to file a bug report and actually found that it can be disabled!

1. Make sure you are online with skype
2. Select the availability dialog and scroll to the bottom
3. Select Accounts and select your skype account
4. Scroll to the bottom and select Settings
5. Un-check box "Enable calling phones"

Annoyance solved.
