do i need to install anything else to install it also.

No, not necessary. Go to the Maemo.org ApplicationCatalog2006, you'll find a link to the Mplayer .deb file. Download it to the 770, doubleclick it to install, and you're off.

but everytime i download it , it fails . is there is anything else i need to make it install it successfully . And do i need to install OS2006 version to have it.

Obviously. All the applications in that catalogue are meant for the 2006 OS.

I have IT2006, and it won't install for me

have you tiried removing virtual memory prior to installing mplayer?

michaelalanjones: If you have any problems with MPlayer, please submit a detailed bugreport (what you did, what you expected to get, what you got) at https://garage.maemo.org/projects/mplayer/, I can't fix problems which I'm not aware of
