I am using the latest testing CSSU, so i'm going to give it a shot.
However, I did make a couple of backups using Backupmenu., just in case

EDIT: Seems to be working so far

Code:
gconftool-2 --set /apps/osso/hildon-desktop/portrait_wallpaper -t bool true
Anyway, how stable is this, because I also found a lot of people complaining that it bricked their device. Is this still a issue?
do i need to type 'root' before typing this command?

Main features of this modified hildon-desktop are:
- auto-rotation of the desktop
- widgets also rotate
- widget postion is stored separately for portrait and landscape mode
- when you enter portrait mode for the first time, you will probably have to arrange widgets in the way you like it
- each widget added to portrait mode is available also in landscape and vice versa.
- almost forgot about desktop edit mode in portrait

If you found a bug, please report it here.

Any suggestions and feedback welcome!

Package is based on the latest cssu hildon-desktop package, which means new features like:
- improved task navigator by freemangordon
- do not change from portrait to landscape when device lies on a table by freemangordon
- added configurable saturation for blurless by David Fries
- included transitions.ini in deb configfile to retain user settings by David Fries

After installation remember to reboot system.

I did that and rebooted my phone. I thought that it worked when i had my background image in landscape and a black background image in portrait. So i tried to change the background image in portrait mode, but it didn't change. I turned my phone and i saw that the image was setted on the landscape mode. How can i fix it?

Your description correspondents to the behaviour of an earlier version of the hildon-home package. Make sure you have installed the latest edition of the CSSU-testing.
