In that case, it would be better to get Allegro 4.2.3 compiled maybe? Is the maintainer around still? (packages show Ian Hatton as the maintainer.)
4.2.3 has this sound bug fixed apparently.

Is it? I have it installed, and it works perfectly for the few games that use it (atanks, etc). Although, the part about maintainer being MIA still apply.
