Hi, I just got N900 a few days ago and I'm really disappointed at the slow write speeds. It's writing about 800kb/sec over USB, and less than half of that speed if I use sftp over wifi. That's almost as bad as my N95 over bluetooth!

Is it just really this slow or is something wrong? I'm quite disappointed. It'll take forever to fill 32gb this way.

UPDATE: it seems the CFQ i/o scheduler was the culprit in my case. Read later posts in thread for details.

It takes like 20 minutes to transfer 1 gig. It's painful.

Did a little test for you by copying 500 Mb file over USB from my raid array to N900 in mass memory mode.

Internal mem around 17500 Kb/sec
Mem card (cant remember its details) 11000 Kb/sec

Hmm, that seems more like the kind of speed I would expect. Did you mount with the "sync" option? If not, did you sync to be sure it's not just being cached in the background? Or copy enough data to exhaust the disk cache buffers on your PC.

Here's my info from lsusb -v, everything seems normal to me.

Hmm, it seems my read speeds are very slow, too. About 1.3MB/sec reading from phone to PC over USB...

On my USB MicroSD card reader I get 20MB/sec and over 30 on a USB hard drive so I know my USB port is working.

Sorry, tested with XP machine so no mount options etc. On the other hand I think that means it doesn't buffer much anything.

Can't really currently test with Linux. I never have had any problems with the speed when transferring larger mp3 collections etc.

I just found another thread where a couple others have similar speeds (http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=37738)... Hmm. I'll have to experiment more with other ports later. Now it's Christmas party time. Thanks for your help. I'll update if I discover anything new.

20 minutes ? It takes just 58 seconds with my N900....definately a problem at your end mate! I guess you don't have USB 2.0 ?
