Mplayer does indeed work very well, except for one thing on my 770 2007HE: the versions starting from .26 do not keep the backlight on when playing a movie. The dev is aware of my problem, but before I begin many compilations of mplayer in order to find what causes this, does anyone experience the same problem?
Thanks for your feedback.

It works; and, given the hardware limitations and bugs in the tablets, it's highly unlikely to ever work any better than it does now.
