I probably wouldn't to be honest, but I'm wondering if it's just me being impatient and unforgiving.

It depends on who the friend is
If he is a Linux nerd or an enthusiast like me I would recommend it for sure

I wouldn't, just because my friends need the simpleness of a phone like the Iphone, where everything is just one click away, and you can do nothing wrong.

No. Huge and not very comfortable phone and very small tablet in same time...
Nokia 6300 + n810 is very nice couple.

i have a friend that is also in to tech things, and likes to tweak every little detail, so i would recommend the n900 to that friend.

I usually did, I love this device but I don't wont to lie and lost my friends anymore as probably NOKIA will lost loyal customer soon if will not stop lie on me.

Good point.

But it's not an accurate public research project, just a bit of fun to see how people feel about the N900 and their friends. Some people may hate their friends and not recommend it to them because they don't want them to enjoy life like us, for example.
