now that it's possible to get the bbc iplayer stream without DRM, do you suppose there's a way to get the nokia browser to spoof its user agent?

Instead of spoofing the user agent I have a greasemonkey script which sets the _IPHONE flag true, but the resulting file doesn't seem to be playable on the Nokia tablet or with Windows media player or quicktime on my system (VLC has no problem playing it though!)

Now that the iplayer flash playback is available for the Wii has anyone tried setting the user agent to the Wii's to try the video?

to answer my own question. It is a lot better than as default, but it is still more like a slideshow than watching video although it is not far off.

No full screen mode available though.

The user agent string to use by the way is...

Opera/9.30 (Nintendo Wii; U; ; 2047-7; en)

Hello all,

I am a new owner of an N800 and while most things work as intended, BBC iPlayer continues to be troublesome. I realise that this may be due to the high bitrate of the flash stream, but now there is also a version of iPlayer for Windows Mobile which is significantly compressed. Officially only the Xperia and Omnia are supported, but also the new Touch series phones (Diamond, Pro and HD) will also work if the user agent string in Opera Mobile is spoofed.

Details here:

Unfortunately, I know nothing about the stream, but was just wondering whether it is possible to do the same thing in the N800 browser (I'm using Diablo) to enable video playback.

I have, of course, written to the BBC to request a version of iPlayer for the N800, but this would be a good interim measure.

I downloaded the latest get_iplayer script,
http://beebhack.wikia.com/wiki/Programs#Linux

I then used it to download a programme, ended up with a file called, e.g.
blahblahblah_b00793by_default.mov

I then re-encoded it to N800 playable format using my script, downloadable from http://www.zaurus.org.uk/download/sc...ecode-2pass.sh thus:

/bin/avi-recode-2pass.sh w-n800 blahblahblah_b00793by_default.mov

Install webaddon-useragentswitcher from chinook | browser-extras.
Then you can mimic Opera or iPhone.

I too tried putting in the Wii's useragent into the switcher, and whilst BBC iplayer does work, it's basically a slide-show with fair quality sound :-(

it also turns the interface into the "big screen" variation which is quite finger friendly, but not that much use if you're looking for something specific.

it does make the radio iplayer quite easy to use - http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/radio
and the sound is quite respectable
