This doesn't completely turn off automatic updates, just makes them very infrequent. (4294967295 is the number of minutes between automatic updates.)

If the above doesn't work, you might need to become root (administrator) first. Install the rootsh package from extras, and then execute this command in X-terminal before the gconftool command above:

I Got an Error saying

Error: Parse error: Integer '4294967295' is too large or small

Please help.

Now i get a new error with the follwing values.

gconftool -s --type int /apps/hildon/update-notifier/check_interval 2147483647

/bin/sh: gcontrol: not found

because i think you mistype something
gcontrol where it should have been gconftool

Ooops that is a type error here sorry about that, But on my device i did type the correct command.

Everytime I re-type the command I get a new error and this time it is

No value to set for key: '2147483647'

You keep doing typos.

Just copy the command within the browser and paste it to terminal, it will work.

before applying the max value, the default value is 1440 if its useful to anyone..
