the data connection is called assisted gps. it means that with it any smartphone kicks any tomtom, garmin,[insertyourfavouritestandalonenavigatorbrandhere], etcs *** 1000000 to 0 when looking at cold start times (the most common situation if you don't use your gps 21/7 for some reason)

WinMo7 Phone add seems so simple and ordinary but yet its very appealing.

I suppose, but WP7 (and others) are polar opposites of what Maemo represents and, indeed, what drew a lot of people here. So it's "interesting" if you're a non-tinkering, flavor-of-the-month gadget fan I suppose. Otherwise it's just "yet another locked down phone."

I hope those decisions are well studied and I just don't see behind it.
1. It could be because all whinners in this forum
2. it could be because he got a better job somewhere else
3 it could be because family
4 it could be because he does like new leadership

So the bottom line is that WinMo7 is boring, too boring to look at? Seriously, I don't get that add. If Microsoft was a manufacturer of simple no nonsense phones (as Nokia, SE, Samsung, LG and everybody already do), that ad would make sense, but they are not, they are making a touch screen phone OS. Just stupid.

Anyway, what has this got to do with Jaaksi leaving?

This is really a moot point for in-car navigation. What you need is for the GPS to be assisted by accelerometers, speed sensors etc so it works accurately in all conditions (parking houses, tunnels, urban valleys and so on). Standard in-car navigation has all this, and Bt for connecting to the phone although this is hardly needed at all.

So why does it keep asking for a data connection even when I disable agps? What's most annoying is that it doesn't just ask once at startup, but keeps pestering you.

A-gps doesn't need constant connection. It should just need to download the bts positions info when you go to new places.

FYI. N900 map program also uses AGPS but there is data transfer that doesnīt belong there:
https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9594

Also as you probably know N900 Maps NEEDS data connection when you are searching places. So itīs pretty much crippled version of Nokias total offline map software on symbian.

...and your answer was a lot more useless than my post.

Believe me I know he may be kicked or something...

But there is no statement and Jaaksi accidently leaves when two other veterans quit. For me this is not a good sign.

You are maybe not able to understand such thinking. Maybe when Saab crashed you just thought "Beautyfull how heaven is blue..."

And yes, you never know her. Because she's a woman. But where is the relation?
