I'm planning on writing a letter to Nokia, and also send it out to as many bloggers as I can, regarding the light reflection from the camera bezel. Before I begin to "take action" I'd like to get an idea of how many people actually have the issue. You can refer to christexaport's thread here for more info on the issue. http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=36675

I feel like this piece of hardware is too expensive for us to have to "accept" a problem like this one. And that Nokia should do something to make up for the issue, i.e. offer consumers a replacement backing, or correct the issue and let us return our units for a corrected one.

To Test If you Have The Issue

For me it seems that light to the N900 reflects in the chrome ring.

So the haze comes more if flash is used because flash is used if you don't have the sun as light source. But the haze can also come without flash if sun light reflects on the chrome ring.

Sure, i'm puzzled...
List of blogs I will passing the results of this poll too, as well as any communication between "us" and Nokia.

Email I will be sending:
To Whom It May Concern,

My name is Joshua, joshua.maverick on talk.maemo.org (tmo), I recently purchased an n900. I believe this device is wonderful, and I am happy with how it is growing, but there is one issue that myself and numerous other n900 have found that we feel is truly unacceptable. The issue I am referring to is the blue coloured haze that appears in photos as a result of some poorly thought out design issues. After numerous tests, other users on tmo, such as christexaport, have discovered that this strange blue coloured haze only occurs when the rear plate is on the phone, eluding that the issue stems from the flash reflecting on the chrome bezel, or some other piece built into the plate.

I have always been a fan of Nokia and your devices and services, and the camera on the n958gb I owned was wonderful, which is why this issue is appalling to me. I have conducted a poll on tmo and I have encouraged all users to post if their devices have the blue coloured “haze” issue. That thread and poll can be found at http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php...924#post492924. I have also encouraged users to post a picture from the phone with the issue as well, so that your Quality Assurance team, and customer service can see proof that it is more than just a few faulty devices.

While many n900 users on tmo and I are disappointed and upset about this issue, we believe there is a great opportunity here for Nokia to correct the issue, maintain our loyalty, and make a statement that your company does care about its consumers and products.

We propose that you offer a free replacement cover to any user that sends you their serial/IMEI. The replacement cover should be re-engineered to have the chrome removed, or be adjusted so that the camera functionality isn’t rendered useless by the blue coloured haze. There was no way consumers could have known about this issue prior to purchasing this device, and I do not believe many would purchase this device knowing that this exists.

I would like to thank you for your attention to this matter, and I know that Nokia will do what it can to rectify this issue. I will be passing this email on to as many mobile blogs as I can, to encourage users to post about their issues, as well as to encourage Nokia to do the right thing. I truly hope that Nokia decides to re-engineer and replace the back covers for as many users as possible.

Joshua (joshua.maverick)
Please send me any suggestions or corrections. I will be sending this out tomorrow afternoon.

sorry for this expression but i won't find anything more suitable for this one:
OMFG!!!

how could nokia not recognize this failure?
ok.. if you're only taking photos in bright daylight this problem isn't there...
but as soon as the double-leds are doing their job it's really annoying to look at the made pics... :/

i'm going for that free backcover replacement, too. you have my vote on this!

Its just unbelievable!

I just took 200 pictures at a wedding and I'm too embarrased to mail the pictures around, because 90% of them suck!!!
I'm so pissed off Its unbelievable because the lighting was set up by an experienced pro cameraman, if thats not good enough, you can't call this a camera!

I have the problem and I would like it resolved. I think a free replacement back cover is a good solution.

Thanks for tackling this.

I noticed this fault, and its the first Nokia Carl Zeiss camera I wasn't wowed by. Nokia used to run mobile imaging, and still does, but this is an embarrassment.

I took a number of test images with the cover both on and off and my unit clearly exhibits the haze problem as well. This and the poor mechanical coupling of the Micro-USB connector are absolute triumphs of poor quality control & design. Nokia should mail a replacement backing to anyone that wants one (hopefully with a better stand design as well) free of charge & should be willing to fix any faulty Micro-USB connectors even after the normal warranty period expires.

It really is terrible. I was always happy with my n958gb pics, and this is just sad.

Also, I'd like to compile a list of bloggers and media connects that we can pass this issue up to so that we get heard. Please drop a contact and url if you have any to suggest, I'll put a list in my first post so we don't overlap. Let's get this corrected. Nokia has a chance to really stand out as a company that cares about their mistakes here, let's push em in the right direction.

Should we also collect "proof"? Maybe everyone can upload 1 pic with the issue.

Oh, and when Nokia sends out a replacement battery cover, perhaps they can include an extended-life battery too? :-)
