The current council term ends in September 2009. By my count anyone who wants to vote in the next election should register at maemo.org by June at the latest to *hopefully* be eligible to vote. I expect the next vote will occur in September, possibly the end of August?

Voting Requirements
Which of the following criteria do you want applied to future Maemo Community Council elections?
129 members voted for this referendum. The repartition of the votes is:
10 karma and 3 month old account (48 votes)
25 karma and 3 month old account (status quo) (46 votes)
10 karma *or* 12 month old account (22 votes)
No karma or account age requirement - everyone with a maemo.org account may vote (13 votes)
The automatic result of this referendum is thus:
10 karma and 3 month old account

*Karma can be earned by participating in the forums*

1) In the upper right corner of maemo.org there should be a login/register link. Click here to register!
2) After registering, login to maemo.org (in the upper right corner).
3) On the small floating toolbar (middle top) click on page, edit account.
4) You can update any information you wish here on your profile page.
5) In particular, scroll down, under Alter Egos, find InternetTabletTalk.com and add a link to your ITT profile page

5a) In the "normal" view of the forums, click on your name in the upper right corner to get to your profile page. Copy the web address from there currently mine is http://talk.maemo.org/member.php?u=19801 (also no link on minimalistic theme)

6) Click on save to save your changes.
7) Karma is automagically calculated for you. It may take a couple of days to show up.
8) Login to maemo.org (upper right), you may need a refresh after logging in. Your name should be in the upper right now. Click on your name to see your current karma.

some more info:

1) being registered at maemo.org is a good thing in general, not only because of the elections. you can influence news rankings, make comments in the downloads section about certain applications etc. - if you're interested in the tablet ecosystem, you should have an account. really. (and while you're at it: register at bugzilla, too. you'll not want to once you finally have identified a bug you're willing to report.)

2) karma is easy for the regulars. here's how it's calculated from forum posts and thanks:
karma = sqrt(posts) + sqrt(thanks)*8
so if you posted 100 times or got thanked 2 times it should be enough.

3) being registered also allows you to be a candidate yourself. you need more karma, though. (100)

Slightly confused. I was under the impression that registration at maemo.org and ITT/talk.maemo.org were independent. Where on maemo.org can I see evidence of their integration (e.g. Kharma statistics based on posts at ITT)? Thanks.

Hmm....tried to register but it seems my name is already taken .
Is it possible to register on maemo.org with the name you use on iTT?

look at
http://maemo.org/profile/list/category/itt_posts/

there you see the top forum posters with their total karma, sorted by forum-post-karma. proof that it counts.
(you can also open a user's profile to see where the karma comes from.)

itt/talk.maemo.org exports the needed info if you link to your forum profile from your maemo.org-profile as described above.

I have the same problem, but in reverse, my maemo.org login was already taken on ItT.

Edit: I know you can paste over the ItT link for karma, it's just a bit of dichotomy to have the two separate usernames.
