I think that Nokia should take a resistive screen and place capacitive nodes around it. With a little software magic the screen could do drawings, note-taking, etc. But it could also be multi-touch and highly sensitive.

Any hardware people know whether this would easily work?

$$$, battery life, reliability. Maybe in a distant future where complexity like this wont be such a problem.
