Googles new NEXUS 4 is a crazy £239 or £279 depending on storage choice. This is roughly half the price of apple or nokias flagships.

Is this a shot across the bows for apple and nokia?

Nothing is ever free especially here the UK. You have the 24 month contract to pay which would equate to around 500 or 600 pounds if your lucky.

No micro-SD slot. Other than that, it seems good value.

I have never owned anything from LG. Can they be trusted? I'm skeptical even if Google is behind this. I think I pass.

Good for Google for giving Microsoft the finger:

Nexus: Learning to Live Without an SD Card

Meh. I want expandable storage. I'm working class. I don't differentiate between corporations. They're all the same to me.

LG build quality is not that good, IMO.

Their cameras are rubbish, and this is the most important hardware aspect in a phone, for me. Even topping good cell antennas. (I own a 808)

Their signal strength and call quality could be worse, but could be better too.

Their screens are very good, though.

So, for cheap it is not a bad deal, but it isn't a stellar deal either.

At first it seems like good value.

But no user replaceable battery, and nowhere to put my music collection SD card. Subjectively for me, that's at least £100-150 in lost value right there.

So all things considered, I'd consider other things first. If I wanted an LG, I suspect I'd compare the Nexus 4 with the Optimus 4X first.
