I usually keep mine at 3 bars, which is a little on the dark side but good for everyday stuff. In bright sunlight I use 4 or 5 bars and I use 2 bars in the dark.

Hm for me 1 is complete off.
And 2-3-4 is very dark.
5 looks normal.

But our problem was that the screen is too bright
Maybe you have new hardware...?
