New build.
Based on an failed login from the Ovi store QA, I was able to create a more robust login method.
This should work (I hope) even if your account isn't accessed from within the US.

Please note that to be able to use qgvdial, you must have completed the setup on your GV account by visiting google.com/voice on your desktop browser.
qgvdial CANNOT set up your account.

Also: @kbyork: Try the refresh now. I've fixed it so that spurious refreshes are eliminated.

What happened to that beta 2.0 version you were making that would use the usual Qt frame and layout? Any luck?

Also, any chance of incorporating notification into the system?

Otherwise this version has worked fine so far. Only problem I have is that in the text boxes I cannot click back to a word if I want to edit that part of the sentence, the cursor always stays at the end.

I'm working towards making it possible for the existing code to work with the base Qt UI. I've not forgotten the Diablo version. I'll get there... eventually.
The Qt UI is not an easy task at all and I don't have as much time as I used to.

Incorporating notifications: You mean the event feed on n9? That's a "someday" feature. I've got to get the normal phone integration (dial and text from n9 contacts) working first.

Editing text boxes: Is that any text box or a specific one?

I just re-read your post. Are you using a n900 or n9? ... or something else?

ok cool

I'm using it in n9 and c7 now.
n9 has the problem with the text boxes. I first noticed it when writing sms and then i tried the rest of the boxes like the login and they respond the same way. hardly a big deal though

i can't seem to call through wifi with this program which is critical so i do not waste my mobile minutes. I thought this would do this and it ended up letting me down when i needed to contact someone urgently. Does anyone know what software where you can actually call via wifi and?

Do you want to NOT use your SIM minutes? Do you have a SIP or a Skype account? If yes, then:
1. configure your Google voice to add your SIP or Skype phone number
2. Enable call ID on your SIP/Skype account. This means if you use your SIP account to call someone, that person will be able to see your SIP number and not "unidentified".
3. Restart qgvdial so that it picks up the SIP/Skype number from your Google Voice settings.
4. Set up your SIP/Skype account on your N900
5. Select the SIP account inside qgvdial - either call back or call out.
6. Dial out from qgvdial and it will use the SIP account you selected.
7. No more SIM minutes needed!

This is the way I used qgvdial on my n900 for quite some time.

This is just a visual for old GUI suggestions (...nothing more...).

Proxy Settings (current):
Proxy Settings (suggested):
The problems that I am listing, appear in many places.
I am picking the Proxy screen only because it shows several problems, all on one place.
  • We scan down a page, find what we are looking for, and then start reading.
This is harder for our eyes to scan down a screen, when text is butted up against labels or icons.

  • Selecting an inputbox, causes its border to change to orange.
But since the border is only 1 pixel wide, it is hard to see this.

  • Even after you select an inputbox, the cursorbar is not shown.
The cursor-bar appears only after you start typing or cursor'ing.

  • The inputboxes are too small, and descending characters (like 'y' and 'p') get cut-off.

  • There is no space between inputboxes; which makes it look like a menu, rather than an inputbox.
And in this case, the lower box is covering part of the upper box.

To use CSS parlance, you need to add padding and margin commands.

P.S.: The refresh is working great. Thanks!

AAAgh! What the? I don't even...

The Symbian 1 and Symbian 3 content of qgvdial on the Ovi store passed QA, but the Harmattan one didn't.
I changed the error message to correctly point out that you need a fully and correctly set up Google Voice account for qgvdial to work.
Ovi Harmattan QA said that they got that message and that this means the application failed to deliver.

I don't know what I'm supposed to do or say any more.

New build: 0.3.918

Currently, only the Logs sub-window still has this problem.

Probably the quickest fix to this is to put Logs first in the OPTIONS menu.
i.e. so its always in the perfect position.
Fixed: With the new version, clicking on Logs (or anything else) will get that setting to the top of the view.

Very nice! That is better than I could have imagined.
Even though it was a small thing, I expect it was rather nasty to code.
