For me Skype (+SIP) especially as employed by the n900 is a paradigm shifting feature, this is such a great utility it is changing the services I use my phone and way I conduct business.

Nokia recently decided not to fix a fundamental flaw in dialling Skype out numbers (see the bug below) from the contact list that it led me to question if Skype has any future as a mobile phone service.

Your comments please?

If you think dialling Skype numbers should be as easy as dialling numbers on a GSM network please vote for this but and let Nokia know Skype not perfect yet.

1) I use Skype.

2) I don't use "Skype out" (payed access to PTN).

No problem for me.

If Skype supports video calling on the n900 with PR 1.2 then its going to reinvigorate my use of Skype.

A WONTFIX is a WONTFIX, threads like this won't help with that

Anyways, I use both and don't have any problems.

With qt becoming the norm I suspect we'll see official full featured 3rd party apps.

I wouldn't worry about it.

My Skype Out works fine. I have no need for inserting pauses into any of my contacts' numbers. I call into a conference bridge where a pause could be "easier" but the basic functionality of "outbound calling" works perfectly for me.

Why would the future of Skype on mobile devices rest predominantly on the ability to have pauses work within contacts? One would think that effectively getting unlimited minutes on their regular plan, for an additional $3/mo would be more of a deciding factor.

I use skypeout a bit:
* To dial freephone numbers that UK mobile operators charge through the nose for.
* Cheap calls abroad
* Calling home via wifi when abroad
* When downstairs in my house & I can't get mobile reception

But skypeout can't replace a phone for me until the DTMF tones are fixed. Today I was navigating a callcentre menu on skypeout & had to play DTMF tones over my PC speakers into the N900 mic because the keypad in the phone app did nothing. Ridiculous.

outbound calling for a simple phone number works well (+1555 666 7777) but about 30% of my contacts have extension numbers in the phone number eg: (+1555 666 7777 p 234. it work fine when dialling on GSM but I cant dial those number with skype as it says incompatible number.

some times i dial my bank and the number looks like this (+1 555 666 7777 p1p3p34567) there are lodes of phone serveses i use where i enter in numbers after I call.

I cant use those numbers in skype out.

surly WONTFIX just means some one at Nokia doesn't think its is worth the effort to fix.

I cant understand why Skype and SIP are not made to work the same way as GSM dialling?
