A thread over at Nokia's discussion forum has brought to our attention a "mail widget" mentioned on page 74 of the N900 user guide.

Thread

http://discussions.europe.nokia.com/...unread-message

User Guide dated 9th March 2010
http://nds1.nokia.com/phones/files/g...N900_UG_en.pdf

From the manual:

http://discussions.europe.nokia.com/.../1/Capture.JPG

Add the mail widget to desktop

You can add the mail widget to the device desktop. The widget shows if you have received mail, and displays the number of unread mail messages.

Tap the desktop, and select * > Desktop menu > Add widget > E-mail.

The N97 had a mail widget similar to this, but I can find no trace of such a thing on my device, no any sign of one in any of the Nokia repositories..

Can anyone see an email desktop widget on their phone or have Nokia documented a missing feature?

This seems to be the manual for PR 1.2. On page 47 it referes to screen rotation for the web browser

Also mentions that you can search for an application by typing in the application selection grid, presumably like you can search for a contact on the desktop..

This user guide is 30 pages longer than the last I downloaded!

Hmm. a sign new things to come! Fingers crossed!

Screen rotation in the browser already works in PR1.1.1. I don't know when it was added, but it's there already as it works right now on my N900. Check it out.

It does work but you have to press a comnination of keys for it to do so... the manual suggests that this is properly coded in and you have the option of orientation within the settings menu... so this is the proper implementation rather than a hack
