meizirkki, have you tried making VLC use esound (instead of alsa)? I remember that I was able to get audio playing that way, back when I was trying to get it to work.

By the way, I have to say that the non-optimized mplayer sounds depressingly slow... I can play 400x240 video with 800 bitrate and it looks nice on maemo mplayer.

How can i change it to use esound?
Do i need to change something in ~/.vlc/vlcrc?

With my current settings vlc plays soundtrack like half second when starting.

I would try the vlc-plugin-esd package.
