By the way Dave, Nokia seems to be the only one focusing on build quality rather than the OS. Lumias are pretty and all, but Windows Phone leaves a bitter taste on my thumbs.

I rather a bearable build quality and a tasty OS instead.
Yes, build quality is important for a released product. But how important is that to discuss on a rumor like this where we simple have nothing to go on?

It's 2012 - there's no reason why we shouldn't have superior build quality especially when the price of devices is so high. Settling for 'bearable' is a no-brainer - I expect whatever I buy to be durable and well constructed otherwise it's going back.

I can assure you that the build quality, fit and finish leaves a lot to be desired.
IMHO, its just a devel-board slapped to some approximate casing, not a real pre-production prototype, like for example the N950. Like you can actually see the edge of the PCB near the connector openings. IIRC it can't even do phone calls properly & not to mention the issues with software update.

100% Agree. It feels very basic at the moment & judging by the mailing list activity (or rather the lack of it) it seems their are still getting the most basic things to work at the moment.

BTW, I really wish they were more open with the development. It looks like there is basically just a bunch of Samsung/Intel guys somewhere, developing everything behind closed doors. They just release some code, drop some wiki pages and even if they read the mailing lists, they mostly do not answer.

Also, the project seems to be hell-bent on HTML5 only with no plans for official native apps support whatsoever, in the name of security (IRRC).

Pairing Tizen with the S3 device would be a sureshot better than what I have in my hands right now.
How do you get a device with Tizen from Samsung? Are you developing stuff for it? What are the specs, and can you share photos? Does it have xterm ?

The S3 is a fine device. I'm just not convinced that Tizen would be an improvement over Android. You just trade one sandbox for another, and lose a huge established support base in the process.

Maybe not an improvement - it doesn't have to be - but at least a further option to choose from.
And if it did happen the support base would only get bigger / better (?)
