We could go back to the days of film:

"No compact camera could ever come close to an SLR. Which is why I use my SLR most of the time"

But most people did not rush out and by SLRs

IDGAF if people rush out and buy DSLR's, I'm just stating a fact about phone cameras vs DSLR's (and why I use it). Yes, it won't fit in your pocket. That's why said I use it "MOST of the time".

"The best camera is the one you have."

I never had liking for compacts, not film nor digital.
OTOH, I had (and still have) several film-SLR's and DSLR's.
and few film rangefinders too. (absolutely best for B&W work, those...)

If you want an argument, then at least compare like to like.

SLR <-> DSLR
Film compact <-> Digital compact
Phone camera <-> ???

(camera obscura comes to mind )

If there is an anouncement it would be either on Slush (November) or MWC (February) I guess.

Why? Comparing exact like for like wasn't the main point The point was that even with film, when there was a better technology, most of the market didn't use it. They preferred to sacrifice all those photographic advantages for convenience. They still do. Camera phones are now 'good enough' for most of the market to dump compact digital cameras for most of the time. But that's not to say they don't like improvements in 'good enough'.

Exactly strongm! There are good phone cameras like the 808 PureView, Lumia 1020 and BB Z30. But still not as good as DSLR quality (except for the 808 PureView/Lumia 1020), let alone finetuning, using the lens to zoom in or having a good grip. And those are facts. I'm not against phone cameras. Like I said: I use my DSLR *most* of the time, which means the other times I use phone cameras (the last 7 months Jolla). But it also means I'm not a fan of phone cameras so to me it doesn't really matter whether it gets upgraded or not. Fact is that a DSLR will always be better, no matter how you look at it.
