Which seems to work pretty well even considering the tag abuses.

Again, this is where moderation comes in. I sure don't advocate uncontrolled tagging.

However, whenever one avenue for "steam release" is removed, the steam just goes somewhere else-- and often under more pressure.

You're right... and just like an offending post or thread, can be easily dealt with.

Ironically, I've seen many, many insulting posts and thread titles stand, even after being reported, so the admin opposition to tags of a similar nature confuses me.

How about displaying the tag clouds below the Active Topics widget on the right column? See what the community wants to do with it.. if people use it, maybe we'll see self-policing of it? (Has that ever happened heh)
I'd imagine the cruft can be easily removed by trimming tags that only appear once (or twice).

I want to thank that but I don't think you should be encouraged.

If there were people assigned to tag threads accordingly, then displaying it at the right side bar would be a great idea, as it would correctly capture trending tags (topics).

With everyone being able to create any tag they please however, it will skew the result, especially if someone or a certain group starts tagging random posts with an unhelpful or unrelated tag.

Easy? I don't see anyone else deleting tags right now.

As a mod, while I do think you help as much as you can deal with insulting posts and thread titles, I hope you can help delete insulting, unrelated, and unhelpful tags as well.

Thanks.

I want to make it clear I started this public discussion in the spirit of openness and in no way challenge Reggie's administration. At the end of the day, what he says goes. I just have my own thoughts and was interested in an open discussion to see how out of compliance I was.

Tags could be used better and sometimes the tags can get a little rediculous and silly so do need moderating. Check of the PR1.2 speculation thread for pointless and irritating taging.
I would like it if more of the informative threads were tagged more effectively so that the tags could be used to show related threads, but the informative threads are usually lacking appropriate tags.
