You don't need a salary when you have other income to compensate. It's a technicality. He was not working for free.

It's not like he found them moneys and decided to work for free. He built that value with his work time and exceptional skills as a religious leader.
Also, I take somewhat offence of joking with someone's illness while they're still fighting it. But as a public person, I guess 'is skin gotsa be thick. Still, this is not the perfect way for an Apple Loather to see Jobs retire.
...The perfect way would be to see him kicked out for abusing his control over the users.
