Hello I recently bought a new-in-box Nokia N900 off of eBay. It was the EU Finnish / Suomi version, but it was still qwerty so I didn't really care

To get to the question, the version of my N900's firmware is only PR1.1. I thought that after adding the Nokia SSU mirros that I'd get a prompt asking me whether I waned to do an OTA update, but I never receive a prompt. I have the latest global eMMC and firmware images. Should I just upgrade my N900 using those?

The contents of my /etc/apt/source.list.d/ are :

Code:
Nokia-N900-51-1:/etc/apt/sources.list.d# cat hildon-application-manager.list
deb http://repository.maemo.org/extras/ fremantle free non-free
deb http://maemo.muarf.org/apt-mirror/mirror/downloads.maemo.nokia.com/fremantle/ssu/apps/ ./
deb http://maemo.muarf.org/apt-mirror/mirror/downloads.maemo.nokia.com/fremantle/ssu/mr0 ./
deb http://repository.maemo.org fremantle/tools free non-free
deb http://repository.maemo.org/extras/ fremantle free non-free
deb http://repository.maemo.org/extras-testing/ fremantle free non-free
Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

jdb2

Google "archive team maemo". There you will find N900 unlocked images from skeiron archives. There is a link. Choose pr 1.3 global. You need also the flasher to flash your phone. You can google flashing N900 and will find instructions. Then from the forum check cssu thread (community updates). I suggest choosing the cssu testing version. I suggest you add to your repositories this:
http://repository.maemo.org/extras/
fremantle-1.3
free non-free

Also in cssu instructions there are other repositories old what you need. There is no real support stuff here except the members. There are no updates for security so your phone will not be updated for security. Your browser wont open all the pages you probably want.

Check also instructions "Perfect setup for N900". For updated browser you need to install Easy Debian and for that have outdated
Debian image for N900 and then you can have netsurf 3.8 browser which is fast but I think it wont play videos or open all links.

And before you post questions and start new threads read everything from maemo wiki and you learn a lot how things work here. Have fun with your phone. There is an effort for an updated maemo version called leste but it is not ready yet.

And for cssu open the cssu instructions page with your phones micro-b browser and click the link for installing cssu testing. It will start the update.

Thanks so much for the very informative reply! I've actually owned an N900 since when it was first released, but it's fallen into disrepair. My new N900 is really just a novelty and is a part of my pocket computer collection, so a fully functioning up-to-date Maemo OS that works perfectly in 2019 isn't really a priority for me

If you would have told that I would not have probably helped you. Maybe I could still have time to delete my posts.

Heh -- I hope you're just being facetious I now have two N900s and I'm refurbishing my older one. I just thought that your comments "Also in cssu instructions there are other repositories old what you need. There is no real support stuff here except the members. Didn't we just deal with the exact same scenario not a few days ago with baptx?

Well...
If you have been out of the loop as you say...
Pr 1.1 being the last thing you used ...
Then you are pretty out of the loop...

You won't get updates from 1.1
As Maemish mentioned..
You need to reflash 1.3.1 and install cssu.

As well...
Maemish ...your instructions are grand.
don't delete them.
If anything...
If we get any more folks showing up asking the exact same question...
You need not write anything.
Just post the link to your post as answer...
It would save a lot of typing .

I use N900 as my main phone so it is not foolish to use it. Just wanted to make the situation clear we are at the moment.

Well, my U.S. N900 which I bought when they were first released has PR1.3 and CSSU ( perhaps thumb? ) along with Uboot or Bootmenu ( I can't remember which ). It also has a re partitioned file system with the swap file being on an SD card. Along with that, I have dozens of apps installed, including things like kernel power, a 3D X-ScreenSaver dynamic background etc. The problem is that its filesystem is possibly partially corrupted and I'm out of space and I need to re-partition again. Also, my old unit has a gummed up digitizer and dust and grime on it since I used it so much and the keyboard is gummed up. I bought supplies off of eBay and also from Stellatech to re-case it though.

You won't get updates from 1.1
