Hello.
Everyone here knows N900's battery doesn't last long enough. So there are a few ways to enjoy our great phone. One of them is to use extended battery like Mugen Power 2400mAh for instance.
I chose another one. I bought a pocket battery, to be particular this baby - XPAL XP4001.It's lightweight, pretty much compact and able to charge the phone 3 times.

It has 2 USB ports that are used to charge a variety of devices(like my iPod). However, I couldn't make it charge my n900 with nokia original usb-microusb cable.

So here comes the question. What's wrong with original cable? Also would not-original usb-microusb cable allow me to charge the phone?

The N900 needs a special cable for "dumb" power sources, see this thread.

I currently use this adapter with a USB/mini USB cable, works great with my Energizer XP8000 (same as XPal's).

Yeah, ANY dumb power source needs a dumb wire, ie: with the data contacts shorted out.

So buying another cable(don't really want to modify original one) and modifying it according to that thread should allow me to charge, shouldn't it?

Yep, or you could get a usb male & female connector and make a tiny adapter to add to the end of your usual cable when needed

If you use a laptop as well, then there are external batteries you can buy which would these days also come with a USB socket.

The reason it is not charging your N900 is because pins 2 and 3 are not shorted out so if you can make a lead up in between to achieve this then it will charge the 900.

Wow that looks great. Can you tell me how much it recharges the N900 or how long it takes to full recharge the N900?
Also is it easy to recharge the recharger aswell?

- I charged it fully recently, it lost a bar out of 4. I'd say 3 to 7 N900 charges, very approximately. I'd have to run a test, I'd like to know that myself.
- It seems to charge as quickly as the mains charger, according to BatteryGraph charging slopes.
- The pack comes with a mains adapter, so it's as easy to charge as a netbook (same kind of charger as my eee pc). See the pics in : http://www.energizerpowerpacks.com/fr/products/xp8000/
