Anyway, you got it installed. Have you checked these:

1. Have you installed xbmc on your desktop-pc/htpc from here: http://mirrors.xbmc.org/nightlies/ ? For now you need to use one of the nightly builds...

2. If so, have you checked that settings->network looks like this?

You can change "port" if you like to.
You can't use username and password for now!

3. Enter the ip-address of your dektop-pc/htpc and the port from above in the settings-dialog of xbmcremote on your n900.

It should connect now.
how do we know port address on PC..? thanks

It doesn't matter which port you take as long as another program doesn't use that port. You only have to make sure that the port in xbmcremote is the same as in xbmc.

You can use whatever you want. I reccomend to use the default setting (8080) unless it is already used by another program.

On the N900, make sure you use the same number as in xbmc.

How can I get the 2nd, 3rd and last screen in xbmcremote? At the moment I can only browse through my libary and play a song, but I'm not able to pause the song inside xbmcremote.

Do you have the remote control interface in xbmc enabled? Go to Settings -> Network and enable "Allow control of XBMC via HTTP" and "Allow programs on other systems to control XBMC". You must not set a password for now.

Then you are probably using some sort of firewall or entered the wrong IP and/or port address in xbmcremote.

Also I noticed that Xbmc has a bug if you close it and restart immediately. After closing it takes a few minutes until the Port is freed again. Close Xbmc, wait a couple of minutes and then retry

Hi fellow remote controllers! I have good news and also bad news:

Let's start with the good ones: Xbmcremote for MeeGo 1.2 Harmattan is now in the Ovi store! No need to download and install the packages manually any more. Of course Xbmcremote will stay free (as in beer AND in speech) even if you can download it from a "store". Still, feel free donate if you use it on a regular basis.

Now the bad news: Xbmc developers decided to rework their API and break nearly every communication with xbmcremote. DO NOT UPGRADE XBMC until the next version of xbmcremote is out! If you did already and want a working version again, downgrade xbmc to something before the 18. of September. I'm already working on the update and hope it won't take long.
