I want to use internet only when connected to wifi. But when wifi is disconnected
2g or 3g is getting enabled automatically.

Can some help me how to completely turn off 2g and 3g.

Thanks

think theres an app in extras that enables tablet mode, basically offline (no 2/3g) but wifi enabled.

Yep, very useful.
It is called cell-modem-ui (latest version in extras-devel).
But using this will disable full telephony functions.

And I did not get the question completely.
Maybe it is enough for him to go to system settings / internet connections and set 'automatic connect' to WLAN. Then the usage of 2G/3G internet is avoided.

In case anybody wants to try this. I haven't tested it, but it seems plausible that it could work to disable GPRS/UMTS while still allowing calls, SMS, and obviously WLAN.

1. Edit, as root, /etc/default/csd-gprs
2. Change ENABLED=1 to ENABLED=0
3. Save and exit
4. (as root) stop csd
5. (as root) start csd

CSD is the "cellular services daemon". I assume that disabling the csd-gprs plugin GPRS should stop working.

TRY AT YOUR OWN RISK!

Go to Settings --> Internet Connections
Set "Connect automatically" to either "Wi-Fi" or "Always Ask"
This makes sure the phone does not connect to GPRS unless you explicitly tell it to.
