After some more modifications on the "official" mediainfo gui (Maemo compiled version was posted here: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=79959), I came to the conclusion it would be easier to start from scratch, going back to the KISS principle

In this case I use the CLI version of mediainfo (which I also uploaded to the extras-devel repo as dependency) for retrieving the media information, while the official gui includes the media-libraries itself.

mediainfo
mediainfo supplies technical and tag information for video, image or audio files.

Source can be found here: http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net/en/Download/Source, mediainfo is also available in the repos.
Changelog: http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net/Log

It supports a huge amount of formats, and it can extract basic or very detailed information.

mediainfo-gui
Mediainfo-gui offers the option to select known files and display its media info details. It has the option to set even more detailed info.
It can be found in the extras-devel repository.

Change history:
Code:
0.0.1-1
* Initial release
0.0.1-2
* Added bugtracker
* Fix small issue in initial path
0.0.1-3
* Sort files in browser case-insensitive
* Added some specific folder icons in browser
* Resize browser when switching from landscape to portrait

A Sailfish version can be found on openrepos.net

Just had a play looks like a useful little application you have there.

I maybe being picky but because mediainfo is a port shouldn't the package name have maemo in it.

Code:
mediainfo 0.7.52-0maemo1

I was not aware of such conventions. It's just the version number right? I will keep that in mind.

P.s. mediainfo itself is already at version 0.7.61, but I had issues compiling the latest version. When I will upload a newer version I will consider the naming convention.

Yes. Just the version number.
The idea being like (leafpad, dooable etc etc) the original package is the start part and maemo version is the second.

Example for clarification:-
If you need to fix a bug in your port the next version would be
Code:
0.7.52-0maemo1
then...
Code:
0.7.52-0maemo2
If you update to a new version your maemo number starts again.
Code:
0.7.61-0maemo0
This appears to be the way recommended on the wiki pages I have read and other packages I have checked out.

See the link in my post above...

This was my next question as I have read the changelogs for 0.7.56 - 0.7.61.
0.7.52 appears to be fairly old version wise.

Please seanmcken, you are around here long enough to know we can't assist you when you post messages like this.

We need possible error or warning messages etc. It sounds like a conflicting or missing python module. There would have been no reason to flash, we are not dealing with some experimental system change here
