I have a source who has spoken with nokia about a wimax tablet that supports 2.3GHz, 2.5GHz, 3.5GHz. He claims to have a pre retail model working on a 2.3ghz wimax spectrum. Apparently early next week I may be able to get my hands on it in person. Take this which ever way you want.

So is it all N810WE's that work on those frequencies? I hope so! This would be great news. But I had heard there weren't multi-frequency WiMax chips on the market yet. Unless the N810WE has many single-frequency chips.

Are the current RX-48 (Nokia N810 WiMAX) fixed at 2.5Ghz? No mention at:
http://linuxdevices.com/news/NS3555890464.html
...but I would assume so.

I've been watching WiMAX discussions in Japan, the Philippines, and in Saudi Arabia. According to Wikipedia at:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...WiMAX_networks
it looks like WiMAX is all over the spectrum, even in the same country. Have a tri-band WiMAX chip would definitely be more useful for international travel.

Nokia documentation says its fixed at 2.5 GHz. http://www.nokiausa.com/A4952190

And the documentation says the WiMax Edition has GPS, yet maemo-mapper says it can't even find a GPS receiver, and the control panel can't get any GPS signal, ever. So who the hell knows.

I can confirm the GPS in the Nokia N810 WiMAX edition. I've been driving around with the N810 WiMAX Edition on my dash, running WayFinder, and having it talk in a British accent as I drive. The GPS is as fine (or as flawed) as the original N810.

I can see the Intel "Baxter Peak" WiMAX chipset at boot using --enable-rd-mode, but nothing about frequency. I kinda wish they kept the software radio and made the WiMAX tri-band as well.

I saw it sold on a price compare website. Even the picture was black/orange (personally, I love this colour combination very much  ). Now, I was appalled because I knew the WME has only WiMax 2,5 GHz. When I looked up all the deals they were normal N810; not WME...

Maybe the contact has a prototype model which may or may not be released.

It'd be released too late anyway. The N810WME was already late, and got delayed & delayed. No offense, but the future of NIT is OMAP3 and Fremantle.

I'm all for that:

Fremantle is the current codename for what will become Maemo 5.[23] The release is likely to feature a much more finger-friendly and consistent UI, and an X-server based on Xorg rather than KDrive.[36][37] It will feature several new technologies, including the Tracker search system, PulseAudio (replacing ESD.), the OHM hardware management daemon, the gUPnP UPnP framework, and Upstart. Several existing technologies will also be updated, including Gecko, BlueZ, gstreamer (will include OpenMAX), GTK+, and Telepathy.[38][39]

The new release will come with new hardware, featuring a Texas Instruments OMAP3 SoC, with an HSPA modem and HD camera, which will provide significant improvements in the areas of speed, 3D acceleration, and media playback. It has not yet been determined whether Fremantle will run on current N800, and N810 devices, though.[40] The release will also bring community-supported Qt libraries alongside GTK.
...but I'm hoping that WiMAX sticks around and that we don't have to worry about a LTE/WiMAX war.
