Cheers
Canola can play a folder.

I have been using Canola for mp3s and oggs (of late, mostly podcasts) and mplayer for video. I haven't really played with Canola for video.

I tried MediaBox, but I couldn't get my head around the interface. I think I need to try it again.

There was a bug introduced, which broke the built in media scanner on N8x0s (metalayer-crawler).

That bug is fixed in the community SSU.

A lot of advanced users disable automatikc running of the scanner and run it manually due to the fact that while running it does use a lot of resources.

Just to comment on the main topic of this thread, I use either mediaplayer or canola, along with the "now playing notifierzf available in extras which shows the track info in a system notification when the player starts playing a new track.

If you want a player that is 'close to iTunes' you want to try out Quasar for the N810.

See link with screen shots here: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=30901

I'm not aware that this bug was fixed, but it would sure be nice if it was! See this forum thread and this wiki doc for the community SSU. Here's a part of the thread that starts discussing this bug.
