I saw this on the board here, so don't give credits to me.
Ope X terminal and write:
sudo gainroot (I'm not sure about root access)
apt-get update
apt-get upgrade

If you are with titan 45 you will get somehow automaticly new fcam drivers and It will solve the Operation failed

Had the same operation failed issues with default camera app and blessn900 after I upgraded to titans kernel 42.

I didn't want to jump to 45 as I saw quite a few problems being encountered but just wanted my camera working again.
Thanks to Jakiman for this help.

I downloaded the updated fcam drivers from here (put them in MyDocs)
http://n900.tannerlab.com/kernel/fca....7-1_armel.deb

Then installed them with xterm:

cd /home/user/Mydocs
dpkg -i fcam-drivers_1.0.7-1_armel.deb

Camera working again.

So here is what I did:
1. uninstalled the kernel-power as described here: http://wiki.maemo.org/Kernel_Power#Deinstallation

2. downloaded on N900 the following 3 files:
http://repository.maemo.org/extras-d...mo40_armel.deb
http://repository.maemo.org/extras-d...mo40_armel.deb
http://repository.maemo.org/extras-d...mo40_armel.deb

3. Install the 3 debs:
dpkg -i kernel-power/kernel-power_2.6.28-maemo40_armel.deb
dpkg -i kernel-power-modules_2.6.28-maemo40_armel.deb
dpkg -i kernel-power-flasher_2.6.28-maemo40_armel.deb

Now you have the old kernel-power installed that works fine with the camera.

I keep trying to follow these steps to uninstall but it keeps failing. I keep getting

"root is not in the sudoers file. This incident will be reported."

Can anyone help with this please, and should I be uninstalling this or should I not?

Use sudo gainroot, I had same problem but it was because I was using sudo instead "sudo gainroot"

Just wanted to repport that I had the "operation failed" problem with my camera. I have updated Titans kernel installed, and for me uninstalling BlessN900 + a reboot did the trick! Stock camera and nokia Panorama works again!
