I have my N900 since Feb 1, 2010, and I have done any update OTA (via WLAN). I use apps from extras-devel occasionally and after reading what others say about it.
I have never reflashed my device and I do not plan to do it. A Linux system can always (almost always) be repaired, especially with the help of this great community here.

I have not reflashed mine since I got it a year ago and I won't unless I have to.

Never reflashed, unless you count the time I reflashed my rootfs but then restored it from a backup (to deal with filesystem damage)

turns out it was flashlight extra causing problems, back on fine form again :-)
