Here are the full steps, finally got them:

export LIBRARYPATH_LD_LR=./
sudo apt-get install sl
sl -laF

Then you can start whatsapp from app menu. Will ask for number of phone you registered with, not for sending sms, so another problem avoided.
Don't forget to choo.

Thank you SO much for that port!

But I had big problems to send/receive longer messages. Only short messages were supported.
So I struggled with that port and found out how to deal with longer messages (incoming as well as outgoing):
after installation (method see above), type in x-term
