im assuming you mean work?!

I went from an n900 to a lumia 800, didn't like it so got an N9. I love my N9 so much but couldn't put up with the battery issue so now have a sony xperia and really like it.

ok so I dug out an old xp laptop

now I followed the instructions

http://coderus.wordpress.com/2011/10...d_flashing_en/

downloaded the correct files, renamed them etc...
when I double click on the main flash file it just comes up unknown format, open with (select program)

so I selected winflasher, but sadly nothing happens. now im not sure if this is a phone issue or im doing something wrong,

can anyone shed any light?

WinFlasher actually works fine for me on Win7 64-bit, providing it's run from command-line as admin (i.e., 'Run As Administrator' cmd.exe, then start flasher from the resulting prompt).

To be honest, that tutorial looks pretty out-of-date. For one thing, the Dropbox link in it now gives a 404, and it talks about using Navifirm, which, AFAIK, doesn't allow access any more. I'd suggest reading the Comprehensive Firmware Flashing Guide, stickied in the N9/N950 subforum.

At no point do you need to 'open' the firmware files - just rename them correctly, ensure they're in the correct place, then tell flasher to use them via command-line.

ok been following the new guide and same as last time I get stuck here

On Windows, run set PATH="C:\Program Files\Nokia\Flasher;%PATH%" in order to add Flasher to the system path.

this does nothing?
