There were some problems with some graphic cards, which made it really slow. When I upgraded to Ubuntu 9.04 this problem disappeared. But yes, the graphic card could cause that.

Which Linux distribution and version? Intel graphics are b0rked in Ubuntu 9.04. This is fixed in 9.10 betas although 9.10 is not released yet. If you run command glxgears -info what GL_RENDERER, GL_VERSION, GL_VENDOR does it say and how many frames/5 sec do you get? You can also enable EXA instead of UXA in xorg.conf. This should give a speed improvement (sometimes of 100%), and should be stable on Ubuntu 9.10.

I also have an Intel (GMA X3100), EXA enabled, latest Ubuntu 9.10/x86-64 beta, Compiz enabled. Works great. So I don't see why on a lower resolution as 800x480 it should lag. In my case the Maemo 5 applications work well, and there is no lag or tearing in the UI. I also followed this guide to get rid of occasional tearing.

This is also not so obvious for a first time installer. The installation guide expresses this as:

7.2. Copy the sources.list entry given to you after the license acceptance to your Scratchbox x86 and armel target’s /etc/apt/sources.list file. Execute the commands below on both targets.
For people afraid of vi, one could also inform that the sources.list files can also be found in the host file system as /scratchbox/users/<USER>/targets/FREMANTLE_ARMEL/etc/apt/sources.list and /scratchbox/users/<USER>/targets/FREMANTLE_X86/etc/apt/sources.list.

Also, not so obvious is that you will need to select the ARMEL target with

Code:
sb-conf se FREMANTLE_ARMEL
to execute the commands on ARMEL target.

Maybe the documentation could be clarified with this regard?

Regards,

Julius

It really could be clarified regarding to this double issue...
I still continue having this problem.
I´ve edited the two files
[sbox-FREMANTLE_ARMEL: ~] > vi /etc/apt/sources.list
[sbox-FREMANTLE_X86: ~] > vi /etc/apt/sources.list

both with the vim commands.
i for inserting text
I pasted the link after accepting EULA and
:wq for writing and quiting saving changes

I notice one thing:
In my terminal it never appeared
[sbox-FREMANTLE_<X86/ARMEL>: ~] >
but just one of both targets. (Like [sbox-FREMANTLE_ARMEL: ~] >)

I tried to select both in sb-menu but I did not figure it out...

The funniest thing is that the error is in the first line of the file:
[sbox-FREMANTLE_X86: ~] > apt-get update
Err http://repository.maemo.org fremantle/sdk Release.gpg
Temporary failure resolving 'repository.maemo.org'
...

Did anyone have the same problem?
Cannot wait to play with maemo...

@ develofer, your DNS and/or routing and/or firewall is not set up correct. Are you running from within VM? Check if /etc/resolv.conf is correct, try to ping your DNS server, and check output route -n

Those people can use nano -m instead.
