Hello

I have not found previous messages about that, so I wonder - has there ever been an attempt to raise funds and buy maemo from Nokia?

I don't want to start a flamewar, but with the latest info about tizen and meego, it seems to be the only way to secure a free and *working* OS.

I'd like to commit $100 to such effort. Maybe we could raise enough to either relicense the non-free parts or have them redevelopped from scratch??

I too would be willing to kick in $100, or even 100 euros. But I think the chances are extremely poor Nokia would go for it.

If this were to happen, what would Nokia have to lose?

Regarding the trademark, I guess using a different name ala iceweasel would be fine if Nokia wants to keep maemo.

But yes I'd be really interested in getting the full source out - deprecated or not, it works fine, while meego was never completed.

A $500 bounty may not be enough however :-/

I didn't realise borking the SMbus busy-bit check was patentable.
