Do darkly colored websites use less screen power than brightly colored websites?

It would make since considering black is the absence of color (no light), while white is all colors (all light).
Given this fact, dark colors on a site should be more power-friendly to mobile devices. Let me know what you think.

Also, does the amount of data on a web page make an impact on power usage?

I don't know why I never thought about this before.

I don't think so, no. As far as I understand TFT technology, the power usage will be proportional to the brightness setting (which controls the overall output from the backlight). Black is displayed by attempting to block all light from the backlight through a specific pixel or pixels. LCDs have traditionally not done this too well, resulting in black actually being more like a dark grey, but the technology seems to be improving

Thanks jimmy100, I just never realized how the technology worked. Maybe I should have done my Google/Wikipedia research first. Does anyone have any other ideas about what may impact power usage on devices like the 770 other than the ones I posted?

Well, I think it's always worth posting that Offline mode would provide a big, if not the biggest, power savings (I wonder how that compares with less-bright display settings?).

Man, do not go designing white type on black background sites now! I use an LCD with my desktop and it's hell on my eyes, sites like that. I imagine it'd be just as bad on the 770. No knock to the 770 -- but the screens don't seem to like that sort of thing. Of course, it could just be my own damned eyes (for which I now need reading glasses!).

I wonder what color would make the LCD emit the least light. Most LCD's are sort of greenish-gray.

Yeah, I plan on adding the ability to switch css stylesheets for visual customization of colors and maybe text sizes to combat the readability issues common with these sort of devices.
