Does anyone happen to know of a way to disable voice activity detection in the builtin SIP client?

I'm using it with Asterisk which doesn't support comfort noise generation so myself and those I call keep thinking the call has dropped, as there is no sound when a voice isn't detected.

It also seems to switch wifi in and out of low power mode, causing a very slight delay occasionally. Great way to save battery life, but I'd like to have the option to disable

I've noticed if I used the device like a speakerphone it consistently cuts in and out, I tested while giving a solid whistle during an echo test, and it just goes in-out-in-out every half second or so.
