I have a N900 and I wish to switch to another smartphone in 2-3 months.
I liked very much the n900, but now it is too old/slow and makes me go on nerves because I like very reactive/fast devices.
I read about the Lumia 920 and I want to ask something to someone who knows the Lumia world and windows mobile.
1) is It possible to gain root access or it is like android where to have root privileges is rather difficult for a newbie?
2) is it possible to reinstall the full operating system?
3) I saw that there is no native divx support. This could be a problem for me that I like to watch divx/xvid and other avi videos. I read that with zune this problem can be solved, but I don't know if it is true. Anyone knows something more about that?
Thanks

1: no
2: yes & no. You can restore back to stock ala iphone but not to install/choose os as you would with the n900
3: Zune will convert the files to a compatible format.

Lumia 920 uses WP8, though. I think that's WP7, if I'm not mistaken.

It will also downscale any HD video whether you like it or not. No options.

Yes, that is what he means.

Lumia 920 is supposed to be a different beast from 900. I dont think its finished yet, as a lot of the functionality was not shown to the masses on September 5th. It will not replace N900 in any ways or means. It will give you a Windows version of an iphone. Smooth UI, very smooth indeed, with great Nokia maps, great text input, and NOKIA hardware.

from what Ms has shown about WP8 way more than half of the things on that list still apply. But WP is still young and with help of Nokia it should get most of those things covered in the future.

I'm with Lumiaman on this ones, 920 and N900 are two very different phones for two different markets. If you enjoyed N900 for the mods/tweaks/coding, community and openness 920 and Windows Phone is not for you in that manner.

But if you want a phone that just works, does not lag and will have future support WP is a good choice.

You win some, you loose some.
