Google Earth requires OpenGL which it will never run in the 770... Not enough power...

maemo mapper program has Geogle Earth feature that works well

Is not the same. It does work well but is not the real 3D functionality...

The even more important point is that the 'linux' version of Google Earth is really the 'Linux running on x86 CPUs' version, while the 770 and N800 are using ARM CPUs. Totally different architectures. There's no ARM version of Google Earth available.

Even if there were an ARM version of Google Earth, it would run slower than molasses on an Internet Tablet - there's just not enough power on the things, especially without a 3D accelerator.

OTOH, if Nokia would get the 3d chip drivers on n800 working, then I suppose gnuite's maemo mapper might come even closer to the google earth experience. Anyway, maemo mapper is a superb piece of software.
