Back in the day I was using Simon Telephonics.

Wow, that was such a long time ago.

I don't have any cell phone coverage in my area so I think I need a SIP number again.

Anyone with suggestions on this?

EDIT:

Forgot to mention that Google Voice needs me to reverify my phone.

So all I need is something so that they can send me their 6 digit verification code.

I think I had Free World Dialup SIP working on my N900, but Google came along and ruined that great service; it is now the dismal spies-on-you google voice. FWD was also cool for my old SIP VOIP telephone. Is there any small project like FWD anymore?

try this, a FOSS project which also has it's own SIP service.
https://www.linphone.org/freesip/home
Once you get it working post about the quality.

I don't have an account nor used their services, but their plans seem interesting (depending to which country you need to call) or you can use the free plan to make SIP calls (without landline termination) : https://www.ippi.com/#plans

Okay.

So I'm first trying Biketool's suggestion.

I signed up on linphone and now have the following account:

Sip identity: s**********d@sip.linphone.org
Username: s**********d
Email: j****.s**********d@gmail.com
Domain/Proxy: sip.linphone.org

I tried to link this account with my phone after installing their app.

"We have sent you a SMS with a validation code to your phone number:"

No 4 digit code was given on my end to enter though.

Can I not validate my phone when all I have available is Wi-Fi?

Do I need a cell phone provider (such as Sprint/Verizon) to activate this?

The nearest cell tower is about 25 miles away from my home.

Thanks for the help.

Could you be more specific on what you understand by "link this account with my phone" and on what action you did?
Does this action need that you receive an SMS on your SIP number? I don't think that Linphone or IPPI give you a phone number where you can be joined, nor they allow you to receive SMS, but maybe I am wrong, or I misunderstood what you want to achieve.

Sigh....
probably had a problem with phone spamming so they started asking for a real phone number to send the activation code to break the free new number scammers.
Email a friend with phone service and have them receive and then email you the code?
Curious where are you? Lat/Lon is fine.

So yeah, please don't expect to understand me much.

Google Voice has spoiled me since that is all I have ever used over the past 15 years.

I know nothing about cell phone services.

Here's what I'm seeing on my end.

No code is being given to me though.

Same thing happens with Google Voice when I request their 6 digit authentication code.

I think I'll try and sign up for a cell phone contract I guess, walk up and down the beach, and hope to get a signal by some miracle.

Biketool, I live right on the shoreline in northeast Michigan.

EDIT:
Forgot to mention, on that LINK ACCOUNT screen, Linphone autofilled that screen for me, so it knows my cell phone number.

I never had to type that number anywhere with them.

Not through the phone and not when I signed up for their services on the web.

Can you contact them via email and explain the issue? Outlook users have to give a number after 7 days to validate but you can do other ways by contacting them apparently.

I don't know if an online SMS service would allow you to receive text.

From what I can make out, the link account is for the address book function, so you can discover other people in your address book that have linphone so you can choose sip or cell call. Like duo or WhatsApp does.
