As you guys might know, I'm getting an N900. I wanna know what to do with it as soon as I receive it. (sidenote: what to check for when buying an N900 nowadays?) I've noticed that the tablets dev website isn't working, so I can't get the flasher. And I've heard navifirm is shutting down, so I can't get the images either.
As you all might know, the search function in talk.maemo isn't the best. I'm sorry if there is already a thread like this. Please link it to here so I can see it.
Basically, I want to know how to kickstart my N900 experince. I want to see the best tweaks, mods, hacks amd themes here! Thanks!

for what to check in used N900 check THIS thread. and for firmware images see THIS post.

edit: if its not your daily device then check CSSU-Devel and if you want to use your device as your daily phone like me then check CSSU-Thumb. Thumb version of CSSU is very stable and your N900 will be very very smooth.

Received my n900 today! So far so good! It feels small though. What should I do now as in mods, tweaks, and apps?

Writing this on the n900! Have to get used to keyboard though

Ouch; I didn't know Google didn't exist

wiki functions partially but anyway a simple google search should be sufficient...

0. Install backupmenu, the ultimate backuptool
1. First go check out CSSU stable, testing or thumb (is basically testing)
2. Install powertop and check every application you install if it causes additional wakeups
3. Check out shortcutd, short press dashboard, long press next track
4. For games check out supertux, brainparty frogatto and colorflood
5. For nice youtbue application go for cutetube
6. Remap your HW keyboar layout, it might be sound scary but if you follow the wiki I am sure you will get used to it: http://wiki.maemo.org/Remapping_keyboard
You might want to check out vi_'s premade mapping to get an idea

7. Hack your own router with aircrack-ng and reaver (wep and wps only)
8. You might want to have full bash or busybox-power
9. Check out xChat for IRC and use this config: http://wiki.maemo.org/User:Joerg_rw/xchat/
10. Simple birghtness applet and flashlight applet, dont use flashlight-extra, these cause batterydrain...
Brightness applet to change brightness from the statusmenu
Flashlight applet, In cojunction with cl-launcher (camera lens launcher it makes a handy tool)

And as last look at my sig for 720p recording, needs overclock though. I won't recommend overclock for anything else as IO is the real bottleneck, not CPU cycles... Speaking about this, you might want to get a sd card with high random writes(thus, mostly no high class) and put swap on SD to lower the acces of the EMMC and speed up your N900 a bit. Check out swapolube for this matter too!

11. Install tracker-cfg, thick lowmemory mode and throttle to 10 to make tracker a bit less demanding

Edit: 12. change bootvideo, the mirror of all bootvideos can be found in pangoorj sig
13. Change theme according your style, check out this thread: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=36439
14. If you installed cssu you also got acces to what is described here: http://my.arava.co.il/~matan/repo/Mo...n_Desktop.html
Try out the alt-tab like switching
