I compiled this utility for my own pleasure from ubuntu's ncurses-bin, it just simply clears out the screen and returns the prompt to the uppermost row.

clear.zip

This includes the 'clear' binary in a zip. Unzip this to /usr/bin or anywhere else in your path as root.

The newest version of osso-xterm (not yet released, but available in svn at https://garage.maemo.org/projects/osso-xterm/) has CTRL+L to clear the screen. Hopefully there will actually be a release of this version soon, but until then this is a good solution.

Oh damn, it sure works. The newest osso-xterm is in the wild, check this link out.
