Dark matter? It may be a convenient shortcut to explain certain aspects of the universe expansion but to me, it reeks too much of "horror vaccui", the medieval idea that nature abhors empty space and wants to fill it. That's why when you suck on a tube whose other end is immersed in water, the water fills the tube, right? Wrong, as it turned out. It is the weight of the surrounding air that pushes the water into the tube. I suspect that dark matter and dark energy will find a similar, more natural explanation one day. I wish science were more humble and honestly admitted, "I don't know yet, but I may one day", rather that coming up with esoteric conceps like dark matter. Though I admit that "dark matter" sounds catchier.
When did Noah build the ark?

While black matter might be a hoex. Same thing happens to most things you can't prove...yet. Everything starts with a theory. Atoms was ones science fiction. Now they are right here for everyone to watch but why can't they change while you watching

When you suck on a straw that has one end in water, you are causing a decrease in pressure in the straw. As a result the pressure in the straw is less than that in the surrounding air. The difference in air pressure is what drives the fluid into the straw.

In regards to it being impossible for aliens to come here due to prohibitive distances, it may be that they know something more than us mere human know about physics, that can be utilized by them to get here or to influence us...

Indeed. And what is causing the pressure? The weight of the column of air above.
Whatever you call it, it is definitely not the nature's fear of the vacuum.

True. All the more reason to be cautious.

That's a good point. Just 2000 years ago we thought that stars were painted on the ceiling. 2000 years is nothing on the cosmic scale but it is massive on the scale of a civilization. Life on other planets may be millions of years ahead or behind us. For all we know, thousands of alien civilizations are still in their dark ages or were trying to contact us when we were in ours.

It could be argued that...
neither the straw,
the glass of water
or
anyone sucking on anything ...
actually exist.

more interesting is a company called blackberry which drops its operating system for android..
and now drops its device manufacturing...
sooo...
I think it is an anti Blackberry device and os which is being manufactured now...
or
as I like to coin it after the recent conversation...
"Dark Berry" device line...
since they now aren't really anything more than another android device line...at best.
Just weird spin doctoring...

You might consider reading a basic physics book on what controls motion of water up a straw.... (mainly pressure difference or capillary action) Regardless I like the phrase

"medieval idea that nature abhors empty space and wants to fill it"

Probably another way of saying that a system goes from lower to higher entropy. Kind of like this thread lol!

If you don't want to pay EU you have to pay someone else

Bribe?

All large investments now will come with an extra demand + the usual investments. U.K. Can now be blackmailed

I think UK should split up and let scotland join EU and hire Scotland as the middle man. Create a gray market.
