Happily not. My UIQ P910 is amazingly accurate, though: a full battery icon means there's plenty juice on board; a black screen means I'm out.

Funny you mention that, because at least in the past, (the 700p may be better, YMMV) Palm hardware had some major limitations on battery charge detection, and the OS could only give you a certain number of battery levels (like 25%, 50%, 75%, full), and even those were more-or-less guesses based on the original capacity of the battery.

I always though the reason that battery life indicators were so rubbish was the battery technology.

something about them giving a steady voltage output for most of the time and then suddenly dropping at the end (this is by design I think). Hence, difficult to measure...
