My MPlayer has been working for ages. However, yesterday when I went to view some movies, I realized that none of my movies are playing correctly.

All movies appear in a small square (maybe it's actually a 4:3 shape) in the upper left corner of the N810. I'm not sure how many pixels are in this rectangle, but the width of the video just goes past the "E" key of the N810 keyboard.

You can almost make out shapes in the video due to the bands of color, however that's all the image is - bands of color and pixels.

I tried running mplayer from the command line to see if there are any error messages, but I don't see any. The output of playing the "Anna Abreu - End of Love" video that came with the N810 was:
Code:
~ $ mplayer /media/mmc2/Video/Anna\ Abreu\ -\ End\ of\ Love.avi

Another thing that I find very interesting is that the videos seem to play fine in Canola. I was under the impression that Canola use MPlayer to play videos, so I'm confused why the video appears fine within Canola, but not when I use MPlayer directly.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you installed any kernel upgrades?

Sorry, I'm not sure what you mean by a "kernel upgrade". I'm running Diablo with the latest service update. Is there anyway for me to check to make sure I haven't installed anything else?

The symptoms of the problem you have described look like some breakage in the kernel omapfb driver. If that's the case, you probably could have flashed some new third-party kernel on your device (highspeed, rotation support, something else...).

Serge:

Thank you very much! I got MPlayer working again!

I had to scratch my head and wonder what I might have installed that might have changed the kernel. I finally remembered I had tried out Android at one point from this thread:

http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...ad.php?t=21495

Unfortunately, when I uninstalled I apparently didn't remember to do the very last step of the directions listed there. Therefore, the kernel wasn't returned to its original state. Installing and uninstalling the diablo-kernel-810.deb fixed everything.

Thank you again!

You might be able to workaround the problem by using a different output module. Try "mplayer -vo xv video.avi" in a terminal. Or you can add "vo=xv" to the config file.
