Alert, alert! I took a brief look at the dev package, and fremantle signond-dev seems to be much different than harmattan's! Please make a backup before testing this one and please tell me whether the signon stuff in Fremantle works with my build of signond.

My nightmare's come true. I tested it on-device, and Harmattan's signond breaks modest and IM on N900. don't install.

apt-get install signond0=0.45+0m5 libsignon-glib0=0.45+0m5 apt-get install-f

I was trying out
Code:
# apt-get install -f
# apt-get install --reinstall signond0
on my spare N900, but the IM applet is still not there.

the damage seems to have been done...
Did you do a backup as I advised?

I quickly took a glance at what apt-get would try to remove if you removed singond0, and the seemingly likely candidate for getting the applet back is (and this is a wild guess, using just the name of the package as a guide): rtcom-accounts-ui

So, perhaps someone with a missing IM applet can try
Code:
apt-get --reinstall install rtcom-accounts-ui
And see how that goes?

This didn't do the trick for me.

Dang (I presume you rebooted to see if perhaps restarting needed - or at least restard hildon-status-menu [and perhaps hildon-desktop {and fairly unlikely but worth a try hildon-home}]?). Well, you could try one-by-one reinstalling every package that is mentioned when you write:
Code:
apt-get -s remove signond0
...And just reboot after each one, see if it comes back at any moment...

This is much too complicated to try out. A lot of packages!
I think a reflash would be much easier.
