who cared to vote
Dont blame the members. Blame the the system. Maybe we need to go more towards poll Style? Make IT easier and more accesible and understandable...

One slight correction: there are 5483 members who are eligible to vote, not all 56476 get to exercise the right to vote.

Still, 83 out of 5483 is just about 1.51%, not a lot in any democracy...

I wonder how many of those 5483 have logged in in the last 6 months?

Has no one read Terry Pratchett? In his Discworld series, there is an iconic charater called Cut-Me-Own-Throat Dibbler, a street seller of food products of dubious origin and quality. Despite everyone knowing this, his business is thriving because he always adheres to his motto:

"Always make it easy for people to give you their money!"

I think there is a lot to be learnt from him. Just substitute "money" for "votes" or whatever else you want people to give you.

mmh, now how hard is it to click a link in an email, and then copypaste a 10-char token and your email address to 2 fields on a webpage...

hmm, okay, maybe next time we should actually create a personal URL for everybody, just add the email address and token to the link given in the voting mail
(not really that difficult, since the whole thing is autogenerated from a template...)

Would that be simpler approach?

Right now there are 800 plus people viewing talk.maemo, of which ca. 50 are members. Assessing the vote via such statistics for say the last year, might reveal a democratically less disastrous picture.

The relevance of talk.maemo is of course embodied by those 800 non-members who presumably find value here. Admittedly, the presence of sailfish users may distort the picture, in that they might find value here at the moment but not feel that the future of maemo or the HF is of relevance to them.

I think it is easy to vote, that could not be the problem....
And one thing I love is that you can check afterward that your vote has been registrated correctly.
