Whenever I try to use "US English" in Swype (which is what I normally use) I get the following error:

Code:
There was a problem opening the Swype database. It may be corrupt or in the wrong format
.

I wasn't messing with the Swype files or anything. This happened after my phone wouldn't wake up and I held down the lock screen button to reset it.

Is my only option to re-flash, or does anyone know a way to fix this?

I would try renaming the ~/.swype directory to something else, then running swype again. If that doesn't work, apt-get --reinstall install swype-keyboard as root. Obviously will need shell access for the latter.
