You might want to take your MAC address out of there. Otherwise "you" might end up downloading a lot of OS updates.

Is the hub supplying power to the HDD too? Or does it have an external adapter? It looks like it's trying to power up, can't get enough juice, then powers down. That would explain why "light load" things like a memory stick or a keyboard work no problem.

I am using a battey system to power it. I will try to use an ext power supply on it. How do I tell what the address is for the hdd?

That I'm not so sure about. I tried whatever people had written in their tutorials (like Thoughtfix) and it was /dev/sda1 (I believe).

I'll dig this one up asking for the second part to avoid posts multiplication.

I'm looking for solution that could provide something like automount for usb flash drives.

I've got something like this on diablo@n810 - I plug-in usb drive and filemanager is started automatically - that's fine. I've noticed that in /media there is also 'usb' directory.

On n770 running OS2007HE with high speed kernel I have no notification about presence of connected drive (other than dmesg of course). I can mount these drives manually (I tried 'auto' option in fstab but it messes something because with auto added in mount opions - I can't mount defined resource manually).

Is there a way to automount any pllugged thumbdrive? I know there can be some partitions related issues but let's assume that I'd stick with first partition ie. /dev/sda1 and so on.

Well, this can be handled by udev rules. I don't know details but I'd google for udev and check scripts in /etc/udev/ . udev also creates /dev/sda1 for you so maybe it could mount it too?
